What to Expect

What to Expect

What you can expect when you visit the North Hixson church of Christ

We want you to visit us at the North Hixson church of Christ. We also want you to feel comfortable.  Visiting a new place can be intimidating and we are here to answer any questions you might have.  But first, let us tell you what you can expect when you honor us with a visit.

Let’s start by walking through a worship service.

Singing

Congregational singing is an important part of our worship whereby we praise God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ. Singing is also a means by which we teach and encourage each other (Eph 5:19). We believe you'll find our song worship to be a memorable part of your time with us and encourage you to join us in our singing if you like.

Praying

Various men from the congregation will lead the group in prayer.  Sometimes there may be prayers for specific needs and requests.  Typically we pray several times during our worship service.

Preaching

We support a full-time preacher to prepare and present Bible lessons.  All in attendance are encouraged to use their Bible to follow along and gain a fuller understanding and knowledge of God and His expectations of us.  If you did not bring a Bible with you, that is okay.  There are Bibles located on each pew that are free to use if you wish.

Lord’s supper

If you visit us on a Sunday, the Lord’s Supper will be included in the proceedings.  Christians observe this memorial every “first day of the week.” (4)  Again, the reason for this is our desire to follow New Testament teaching. The bread symbolizes the body of Christ. (5) Each Christian that participates by taking a piece of bread and eating it. Next, trays filled with small cups containing “fruit of the vine” (grape juice) are used.  This symbolizes the blood of Jesus. (6)  Each one will drink the contents of the cup. If you choose not to participate, don’t be embarrassed.  Feel free to reach to someone nearby if your have further questions.

Offering

Also, if you visit on a Sunday, a basket is placed at the back to collect the weekly financial offering. (7)  As our guest, you will not be pressured and are not expected to make a donation. The money that is collected is used to spread the gospel as well as helping needy saints.

The people

What kind of people can you expect to find?  Pretty much the entire spectrum, as in any group.

We are a diverse group.  We come from varied backgrounds and are all at different stages of knowledge and spiritual growth.  We don’t know everything.  We don’t always do everything right.  We don’t always treat each other as we should.

You won’t have to look very far to find our failures, we were brought together by our recognition that we all fall short and need God’s help.  You will find a group of people who love Jesus and love the Bible.

We haven’t arrived – we are just on the journey.

What will be expected of you

Nothing at all.  You may be asked to fill out a visitors card, and this is just so we have a record of your attendance.  However, feel free to decline this request if you prefer.

If you have questions about our worship, or want to know more about God, or how to become a christian please don’t hesitate to ask.  Any one of our members would be happy to assist you.  Thank you very much for visiting us here at the North Hixson church of Christ.
