After graduating from Auburn University in 1963, Bill worked in industry in the Auburn area for 4 years and then began preaching on a full-time basis. His first full-time preaching work was in Notasulga, Alabama (12 miles west of Auburn). From there he moved to work with the Oglethorpe Ave congregation in Athen, Georgia, and then, in April of 1984 moved to work with the North Hixson congregation in Chattanooga, Tennessee. His work with the North Hixson congregation continues to the present.

Bill has preached in gospel meetings in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Idaho, California, and Texas. He authored one of the chapters in a book on marriage, divorce, and remarriage ("Is It Lawful"), and has published numerous magazine articles. Bill has also participated in debates, hosted a radio program, and performed other functions typical of the work of an evangelist.
